| Abfahrt Hinwil links berge rechts seen toytronic Toytronic fans, you've likely heard most of these tracks before. You might already own the seven inches on Expanding Records and, yes, Toytronic, and the accompanying ten-inch of Abfahrt Hinwil tracks.
But if you don't own this material--and perhaps even if you do--you're still going to want to get ahold of this release. It's one thing to commend the two additional unreleased tracks that make an appearance here, but it's something else entirely to fully explain the joy of experiencing the songs as a sequenced order of beautifully ascendant melodies and melancholic electronic blips. Much like Martin Haidinger's previous material under the Gimmik moniker, there's an attention paid to songwriting here that sometimes lacks on other labels' output. And while none of the tracks are instantly catchy, that's not to say they're not songlike. In this way, the album, as a collection of seven- and ten-inches, serves as a strange sort of concept album. You wouldn't think that's possible given the disparate origins of the tracks, but it's somehow the case here. Put away your King Crimson LP's and give this release a try. |
