NYPD Tackles Clubs and Pills and Hollywood, sans Steven Bochco Attention Tunnel patrons! Senate hopeful Rudy Giuliani has left the building. You can now resume your regularly scheduled recreational drug activities! The New York Post reports that Giulianis drug sniffing dogs have left their residence at Peter Gatiens Tunnel nightclub following an unsuccessful attempt by the city of New York to shut the Tunnel down after it allegedly had been fostering a "pro-drug" environment. (For the record, New York City nightclubs are only allowed to foster a "pro-alcohol" environment).A judge, however, ruled that the Tunnel was doing all that it could to keep drugs off its premises. Alas, Mr. Gatien was unable to enjoy his vindication as he was promptly arrested for tax fraud, Capone-style. The same thing also happened to the notorious nightclub Studio 54s owner, Steve Rubell, in the late 70s. (This we learned from watching Mike Myers excellent performance in the even better flick by New Line Cinema, 54. Excellent.) Back to the police: Undeterred by legal failure, New Yorks finest have shifted their attention towards the rave-oriented superclub, Twilo, suing the ownership on the grounds that the clubs environment is a "public nuisance." Why New Lines production of the "excellent" 54 wasnt considered a "public nuisance," well never know, but wed guess its just a matter of jurisdiction. At Twilo, undercover police were able to purchase a total of 84 ecstacy pills from alleged dealers, while simultaneously being unable to identify whether the music they heard on the soundsystem would be classified as trance or house. And just when your grasp on reality hits its tenuous low after absorbing all this incongruous information, take heed to the words of Sabrina the Teenage Witchs star, Melissa Joan Hart: "Everything is a game of Risk or Monopoly or chess. You have to pick your moves carefully." For Ms. Hart, these shrewd moves include planning on purchasing a New York City nightclub, perhaps Twilo. She reached this decision following repeated denial of entry by the clubs bouncer, threatening, "You know, youre going to be working for me in a month." Lets hope her box-office numbers for Drive Me Crazy (released by 20th Century Fox, not New Line) can help her cause! >>> Twilo online >>> New York Post coverage >>> Sabrina in the news |
