Liam vs. Leo vs. Not-so-Low Altitude Pornography

The Prodigy's Liam Howlett has once again collaborated with Massive Attack's 3D, this time on the soundtrack to the forthcoming Leonardo DiCaprio movie based on Alex Garland's bestselling novel The Beach. This is the way things habitually work: a book sells well, studios snap up the rights, and then someone dumps UK director Danny Boyle at the helm and has some ‘subversively hot acts’ contribute to the soundtrack. Hence, Trainspotting, for instance.

The as-yet-untitled song has been described by Howlett as "some warped Beach Boys-type shit" but it's not known when the soundtrack - a London Records project - will be released. The duo will be joined on the soundtrack by New Order, who are rumored to be contributing two newly-recorded tracks, their first new material since the "Best of..." rehashes in 1995. The Beach is due out in the new year, just in time to ride that wave of Leo’s post-Titanic popularity, just like Woody Allen was able to due with his box-office smash Celebrity.

Howlett and 3D teamed up earlier this year to record a song called 'In-Flight Data' for The Uranus Experiment, a hardcore US porn film that featured "the world's first ever zero gravity cum shot".

Both Prodigy and Massive Attack have now gone into the studio to record their new albums. Prodigy are making the follow-up to 1997's 'The Fat Of The Land' in Howlett's home studio in Essex while Massive Attack, now without Mushroom, are recording at a studio in Bristol.
