"Badly Drawn Boy" Ineptly Scores Poorly-Produced and Very Self-Deprecating British Western This artists plays guitars over samples and loops. Cowboys play guitars over campfires. See the connection? The UKs New Music Express is reporting that Badly Drawn Boy (known only perhaps to the Yanks as that guy on the UNKLE album) has just finished scoring the soundtrack to a country film titled Exhaust. Keep in mind that its not very often British filmmakers try to make short urban westerns.Did we mention that Badly Drawn Boy did the vocals on Unkles Psyence Fiction? And even further off the beaten path, Sean O Hagan of the High Llamas says this BDB fellow is his second favorite artist of 1998. On the High Llamas fan-based newsgroup, one Mr. Tim Robinson comments: "Him and his smug looking friends keep winning the bloody pub quiz at the Horse and Jockey in Chorlton on Sunday Nights. This is not on. The prize is free drinks which the smugly drawn tosspot gets plenty of. He only wins because he thinks he is well in with Ken, the DJ. I think Ken lets him see the answers so he can get free tickets to see rubbish gigs by Badly Drawn Boy." Mr. Robinson is presumably British. >>> XL Recordings >>> It Came From the Ground >>> Once Around The Block >>> My Friend Cubilas >>> Road Movie >>> UNKLE & MoWax Records >>> More on UNKLE >>> High Llamas & Sean OHagan |
